SplitTrips.com is a new and innovative outdoor recreation booking company and a game changer for the fishing and hunting industry. SplitTrips is working to solve the dilemma of matching fishing enthusiasts to vacancies on charter fishing boats. The first phase of this Florida based company is focused on the fishing industry, acting as the coordinator for Captains and their customers.
When the cost of a charter trip is shared between more than one group of customers, combining groups to reach a full load of customers for an outing is known as a split-trip. Matching an opening to a customer looking for a trip will allow customers to join other enthusiasts without having to cover the full cost of the charter. SplitTrips has found an innovative way to help fill empty slots while saving the customer money.
Founder Drew Ramsey launched the company earlier this year; he recalls the fun experienced as a child participating in charter fishing trips. With the recent decreases in revenue for the industry, he searched for a solution. “I wanted to help captains stay in business and keep alive the tradition of charter fishing that I enjoyed with my own father,” says Ramsey.
Ramsey saw the Captains were using whiteboards on the dock to advertise their services and using his background in business, he searched for a better way for customers to compare options. SplitTrips created a marketplace where potential trip goers can see what’s available including prices and options. SplitTrips allows the customer to see the bottom line and make a decision without the hassle of driving to the docks.
