Triumph funds headed to port

March 29, 2018

The Port Panama City expansion could be the first project funded under the Triumph Gulf Coast program. The port, one of 116 applicants vying for the first round of funding, has applied for $10 million from the program to help pay for its East Terminal Expansion.  read more

State budget provides over $50 million for Projects in NWF

GCSC Hosts Cyber Warfare Forum, Presents Bestselling Author

Gulf Coast State College hosted a 'Lunch and Learn' series on cyber warfare Wednesday. Retired Brigadier General Anthony J. Tata was the special guest. Tata tied in his new best selling book, Direct Fire, to the series. He says the fictional book addresses the cyber warfare threat the U.S. is currently facing. Direct Fire presents a scenario on hacking that occurs at financial institutions and vehicles.  read more

State and local leaders celebrate arrival of new reaper wing

January 23, 2018

State and local leaders gathered at Gulf Coast State College Tuesday evening to celebrate the new addition of an MQ-9 Reaper Wing coming to Tyndall Air Force Base. Governor Rick Scott and Congressman Neal Dunn were there, along with other state and local leaders and officials from Tyndall. The wing is expected to bring about 1,600 new jobs and more than $250 million of military construction.  read more

American Airlines soon to be a carrier at Northwest Florida

If you're looking to catch a flight to more locations in the United States, Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport will soon have more direct flights available for travelers. Thursday morning, airport officials announced American Airlines will offer non-stop flights starting June 7th. The airline will have daily direct flights to Charlotte Douglas and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airports.  read more

County Commission endorses 11 Triumph hopefuls

The Bay County Commission on Tuesday recommended 11 projects for funding from the first round of the Triumph Gulf Coast oil spill funds. The list includes requests to pay for workforce training programs, infrastructure to reel in new airport companies, an expansion of the port and proposed sports park on the beach, a vessel manufacturing facility at Eastern Shipbuilding and a new FSU Aging Research Center.  read more

Panama City, Fla. –Today, it was announced that Jellyfish Health LLC, a health care technology company that makes health care more convenient for patients, staff and physicians, is expanding its operations in Panama City, Florida. Jellyfish Health is creating 100 new jobs at an average annual wage of $70,000. The majority of the new jobs will be focused on software development with an average wage that is more than 200 percent of the current average in Bay County, Florida.  read more

Bay EDA Opens Economic Development Center of Excellence

Last week community leaders cut the ribbon for the Bay Economic Development Alliance’s (EDA) new economic development center of excellence. The EDA has joined CareerSource Gulf Coast’s board offices at Gulf Coast State College. In July, the EDA moved from their former location on Jenks Avenue to the college. “The partnership with CareerSource Gulf Coast and Gulf Coast State College is a perfect fit for the EDA. This move aligns economic development, the college, FSU PC, workforce development and Port Panama City and places the EDA in the center of Bay County,” said EDA Chairman, John Juchniewicz.   read more

Small Business Forum for Florida Representative Candidates

The Business Innovation Center (BIC) and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will be hosting a Small Business Candidates Forum for the Florida State House of Representative Candidates, District 6. The forum will take place Tuesday, June 24th, 6:30 p.m. in the Summit Conference Room of the Advanced Technology Center at Gulf Coast State College. The forum moderator will be WPGX-TV’s “Wakin' Up With Don” Don Arias. The focus for candidates will be to share their views related to the economic development of Northwest Florida and their vision for supporting small businesses. The forum will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. with a reception to follow. All current 2014 candidates for Florida House of Representatives, District 6 are scheduled to participate in the forum. The BIC and the SBDC will collect questions from area businesses. Each candidate will be asked to respond to the compiled questions relating to the forum topic.   read more
