Triumph funds headed to port

The Port Panama City expansion could be the first project funded under the Triumph Gulf Coast program. The port, one of 116 applicants vying for the first round of funding, has applied for $10 million from the program to help pay for its East Terminal Expansion.

State budget provides over $50 million for Projects in NWF

Governor Rick Scott signed the state’s budget into law Friday, providing more than $50 million for projects in Northwest Florida. According to the Governor’s office, the budget invests record funding for education. Two of the projects benefit students at Haney Technical Center.

GCSC Hosts Cyber Warfare Forum, Presents Bestselling Author

Gulf Coast State College hosted a ‘Lunch and Learn’ series on cyber warfare Wednesday. Retired Brigadier General Anthony J. Tata was the special guest. Tata tied in his new best selling book, Direct Fire, to the series. He says the fictional book addresses the cyber warfare threat the U.S. is currently facing. Direct Fire presents a scenario on hacking that occurs at financial institutions and vehicles.

State and local leaders celebrate arrival of new reaper wing

State and local leaders gathered at Gulf Coast State College Tuesday evening to celebrate the new addition of an MQ-9 Reaper Wing coming to Tyndall Air Force Base. Governor Rick Scott and Congressman Neal Dunn were there, along with other state and local leaders and officials from Tyndall. The wing is expected to bring about 1,600 new jobs and more than $250 million of military construction.

American Airlines soon to be a carrier at Northwest Florida

If you’re looking to catch a flight to more locations in the United States, Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport will soon have more direct flights available for travelers. Thursday morning, airport officials announced American Airlines will offer non-stop flights starting June 7th. The airline will have daily direct flights to Charlotte Douglas and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airports.

County Commission endorses 11 Triumph hopefuls

The Bay County Commission on Tuesday recommended 11 projects for funding from the first round of the Triumph Gulf Coast oil spill funds. The list includes requests to pay for workforce training programs, infrastructure to reel in new airport companies, an expansion of the port and proposed sports park on the beach, a vessel manufacturing facility at Eastern Shipbuilding and a new FSU Aging Research Center.

Gulf Coast State College hosted a workshop aimed to help students prepare for the start of their careers. The event was titled “What I wish I knew before I started.” Allan Bense, chairman and CEO of Bense Enterprises, was the featured speaker.
